Inspired in the studio, Janna is considering which colors and elements to bring together for the complete Flora and Maze design.

"These botanical elements are inspired by barkcloth, a textile that became popular from the 1940s through the 1960s. Although most people will think of Hawaiian flower themed or Atomic age barkcloth, the ones that stood out to me were always the stylized, geometric shoots, twigs and buds. In this watercolor, I made my own version of imagined sprigs and blooms -- a more delicate pattern, but still a nod to this favorite textured cloth. This openness allows for the maze portion of the design to show through.

Here, I'm working with my botanical watercolors, driftwood inspired border and misty aqua mid-line. I select my palette to complement both the graphic and the possible base choices. Copper. Slate. Recycled wood. Glazes. I am also incorporating graphite gray for a steel base."

This is the story about Flora, stay tuned for the details on the Maze...
